Annual Enrollment Starts Here!

Washington and Lee University’s annual enrollment for employee benefits will be held from April 12th through April 30th. Annual enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to make changes to your benefit plans. Elections made during this annual enrollment period will take effect July 1, 2021.

 

Highlights of the July 2021 – June 2022 Plan Year:

  • The Aetna medical plans will continue to be offered with no change to the plan design and no change to employee paycheck contributions.
  • Express Scripts will replace CVS Caremark as our pharmacy benefits manager.
  • There will be no changes to any of the other benefit offerings (dental, vision, life, disability).
  • If you would like to participate in the healthcare or dependent care FSA's in 2021/2022, enrollment or re-enrollment is required in Workday.
  • W&L's retirement plan match will be restored to 5% effective July 1.

Aetna Choice POS Plans

Good news! There will be no change to the Aetna medical plans for the July 2021 plan year. You will continue to have the option to enroll in either the Aetna Choice POS II or Aetna Choice POS II Carilion plans. In addition, there will be no change to the paycheck contributions for either of the Aetna plans!

New for July 2021! Express Scripts will be our pharmacy vendor. When you enroll in an Aetna medical plan you automatically receive prescription drug benefits through Express Scripts.

You have the option of electing voluntary vision benefits through the UniView vision plan. For the July 2021 plan year, there will be no change to the premiums or covered benefits under this program.

United Concordia (UCCI) Dental

The United Concordia dental plans will continue to be offered for the July 2021 plan year. You have the option to enroll in either the Core Dental Plan or the Buy-Up Dental Plan. For the July 2021 plan year, there will be no change to the premiums or covered benefits under either of the dental plans.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Washington and Lee University offers you the option of setting up a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and setting aside money from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible expenses. For the 2021-2022 plan year, you can contribute up to $2,750 to a Health Care FSA and up to $5,000 to a Dependent Care FSA.

How To Enroll

Action Required

The deadline to make your benefit elections for the plan year beginning July 1st is April 30, 2021.

 

Annual enrollment is your opportunity to make benefit elections for the July 2021 – June 2022 plan year. Per IRS rules, employees enrolled in pre-tax benefit plans may only make changes to their benefits once per year during the annual enrollment period. Outside of the annual enrollment period, you may only make changes if you experience a “qualifying life event” such as marriage, birth of a child, loss of dependent status, etc. During annual enrollment, you may:

 

  • Enroll in, change or cancel benefit enrollments.
  • Enroll (or re-enroll) in flexible spending accounts for the new plan year.
  • Add or drop dependents from benefit enrollments.


This year, benefit elections will be made on our Workday portal. Beginning April 12th, you can log into Workday using the link below.


When you are in the Workday website, please also consider increasing your retirement contribution at this time.
