Benefits Effective July 1, 2024
Woodland Park School District is pleased to provide a selection of benefits designed with your health and financial well-being in mind. We review our benefit programs annually to ensure the best combination of benefit coverage, network access, and affordability for our employees.
The complete benefits package is briefly summarized on this enrollment site and in your Benefit Guide. Please review it carefully to select the coverage that best suits your personal situation. If there is any discrepancy between the insurance carrier's certificate of coverage/plan document and this guide, the insurance carrier's certificate of coverage/plan document takes precedence.
This year's Open Enrollment is May 1st - May 15th.
During the annual open enrollment period, you may make changes to your benefit plan elections and/or the family members you cover. Changes can only be made outside of the annual enrollment period if you experience a qualified event that permits changes in your plan election. So now is the time to carefully review your plan options.
The benefit plan year is from July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025.
Employees will enroll or waive coverage via EASE.
All regular positions with a cumulative Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) of 0.5 or greater are eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, ltd, and voluntary coverages. Basic Life/AD&D is offered to Full-Time employees working at least 30 hours per week.
To obtain benefits you must satisfy the following:
Eligible Dependents:
New Hires:
Eligible employees are able to participate in the Woodland Park School Distrcit benefit plans on the 1st day of the month following 30-days of full-time employment. You will receive benefit enrollment instructions with your new hire paperwork and will have 30-days to make your selections.
Employees will enroll or waive coverage via EASE.
The plan year is from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.
Open Enrollment is the only time you may add or change benefits during the year unless you have a qualifying life event. Qualifying life events are events such as marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, loss of eligibility under another plan. If you experience a qualifying event, you must notify Human Resources within 30 days of a qualified event to obtain approval for any benefit changes mid-year.
Examples of a Qualifying Event
The following events allow you a 60-day special enrollment period to complete and submit a change request to update your benefits outside the open enrollment period:
Please reach out to Human Resources if you have any questions about qualifying events.
All benefits-eligible employees must log onto EASE to update dependent information and submit elections or waivers for the 2024 – 2025 plan year.
Benefit elections for the following coverages will roll over to what the employee elected for the 2023 – 2024 plan year: medical, dental, vision, voluntary life / AD&D, accident, and critical illness.
Pre-tax benefits, FSA and HSA, will not roll over to the new plan year and require the employee to elect their pre-tax election.

Accident
The Standard helps with expenses health insurance doesn’t cover. The Accident plan provides a financial benefit for accidental injuries that help offset the out-of-pocket costs, for unexpected medical expenses, such as emergency room fees, deductibles and copayments, or covering the cost for any other financial needs that can result from a fracture, dislocation or other covered accidental injury.
Critical Illness
The Standard Critical Illness plan provides a financial lump-sum benefit that you can use to pay the direct and indirect costs related to a covered critical illness, which can often be expensive and lengthy.
(NEW) Hospital Indemnity
A trip to the hospital can be costly – and many employees aren’t prepared for the out-of-pocket expenses that come with a hospital stay, even with medical coverage. The Standard Hospital Indemnity plan pays cash benefits to employees in the event of a hospitalization, regardless of treatment costs or other insurance coverage. It's an affordable way for employees to keep their finances on track.
IMPORTANT: This is a fixed indemnity policy, NOT health insurance This fixed indemnity policy may pay you a limited dollar amount if you’re sick or hospitalized.
You’re still responsible for paying the cost of your care.
Looking for comprehensive health insurance?
Questions about this policy?
For Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity Insurance: These benefits are under limited benefit insurance policies. These policies are a supplement to health insurance and are not a substitute for major medical coverage. They are not intended to satisfy the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or provide the minimum essential coverage required by the ACA. Lack of major medical coverage (or other minimum essential coverage) may result in an additional payment with your taxes.
As a District employee, you have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of spending accounts on a pre-tax basis which lowers your taxable income. The spending account available to you is based upon the type of medical coverage you are enrolled in.
Health Savings Account (HSA) allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses. By contributing to a HSA you reduce your taxable income, so you pay less in taxes — which saves you money. To be eligible for an HSA, you must be enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). The IRS requires an individual to annually elect the amount of money to be set aside pre-tax with the District. Current 2024 figures can’t be rolled over for the 2025 plan year and anyone wanting to elect HSA contributions above what the District provides, must elect this coverage via the EASE portal during open enrollment.
What is a Health Savings Account (HSA)?
A qualified high deductible health plan with a Health Savings Account is an alternative to traditional health insurance plans. The HSA is a savings product that offers a different way for consumers to pay for their healthcare costs. HSAs enable you to pay for current qualified expenses and save for future medical and retiree health expenses on a tax-free basis.
The total annual contribution in 2024:
If you elect to participate in the Qualified High Deductible Health Plan (QHDHP), the District will make a HSA contribution on your behalf every month. The employee and employer contributions cannot exceed the total 2024 annual IRS maximums. Check your Benefits Guide for the employer contributions.
What can you do with your HSA?
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to pay for your portion of unreimbursed healthcare expenses and dependent or childcare services with pre-tax dollars. With an FSA, contributions are deducted from your paycheck before state and federal taxes. The IRS requires an individual to annually elect the amount of money to be set aside pre-tax with the District’s FSA plan. Current 2024 figures can’t be rolled over for the 2025 plan year and anyone wanting to make FSA contributions must complete a new paper enrollment form during open enrollment. This form can be obtained from HR.”
Flexible Spending Accounts:
Health Care FSA (HCFSA; includes dental and vision): Each year, you may set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for qualifying out-of-pocket medical, dental, vision, and some over-the-counter expenses.
Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA): Each year, you may set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible dependent care expenses. This may include childcare, elder care, or other eligible dependent care. Funds are available for reimbursement only as they are deducted from your paycheck.
FSA Facts You Should Know:
The District provides employees and their families a dental PPO plan through Delta Dental. This plan offers access to in-network and out-of-network providers and benefits; however, to receive the maximum benefits from the plan, we recommend members should consider using Delta’s participating network providers, PPO or Premier.
PPO providers provide the highest level of network discounts to a member which enables an individual to have your annual maximum dental benefit cover more services during the year. If you are unable to find a PPO provider, please consider the Premier network as these dentists don’t have as high of a network discount but provide their services at a discount compared to a provider who doesn’t participate in either network. To find a participating Delta Dental dentist go to www.deltadentalco.com
Your dentist can spot the early signs of some systemic diseases and can help you avoid painful and costly dental procedures in the future. We encourage you to make dental care a priority, especially since an annual preventive care visit is not subject to the annual deductible.
For the 2025 plan year, there will be new individual member ID numbers associated with Delta Dental’s plan. New ID cards will not be mailed with the new group number and members can either call or log into Delta Dental’s website if you prefer to print an ID card. This information is also available via their mobile app.
Woodland Park School District offers employees access to vision coverage through the DeltaVision plan. Delta Dental of Colorado and VSP Vision Care are partnering together to provide individuals with coverage for eye exams, prescription glasses and contact lenses. The new VSP provider network will be the VSP Choice network and to find an in-network provider, go to https://www.vsp.com/
As part of this new partnership between Delta Dental and VSP, members will have access to the KidsCare program for enrolled children on the vision plan. This coverage provides enhanced services and access to materials for kids up to age 26. Individuals getting frames this year will also realize a higher frame allowance of $150.
Basic Life / AD&D
Woodland Park School District pays for a Basic Life / AD&D (accidental death & dismemberment) insurance benefit of $50,000 to our FTE working at least 30 hours per week. We encourage individuals to review the beneficiary designated for these benefits when completing your enrollments on EASE.
Employees have the option to enroll in basic dependent life insurance for a $5,000 spousal benefit, and $1,000 child(ren) benefit. Employees are responsible for paying the dependent coverage if elected. Please review the Benefit Guide for per pay period cost.
Voluntary Life / AD&D
Employees also have the ability to purchase a term life insurance policy for themselves, their spouse, and children. Please review the Additional Life ADD benefit summary below for more information.

With the Long-Term Disability benefit, in the event you are disabled for a period of more than 90 days, you can receive a percentage of your pre-disability earnings.
