Accident Insurance

A serious injury can cost you a lot of money – not only in medical bills but in things like income from lost work hours. Some injuries are minor, but others are debilitating and require significant medical care. If you get hurt, accident insurance pays you money that you can use to cover personal expenses, bills, and out-of-pocket medical costs.

Not all accidents are “qualifying injuries.” The kinds of accidents that are covered can vary by plan but accident insurance plans typically cover things like:

Critical illness can vary widely from one another. Some may focus on a single specific diagnosis, while others may provide you with coverage for a range of possible diagnoses, such as:

Flexible Spending Account

Benefit eligible staff, faculty, and administrators, may participate in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Eligible employees may enroll in the FSA during the annual open enrollment period (effective June 1). EmploThe FSA allows employees to redirect a portion of their salary for non-cash benefits thus avoiding federal, state, and county taxes, including social security. This plan features two flexible spending accounts (health care reimbursement and dependent care reimbursement) for certain qualified out-of-pocket expenses. The IRS requires that monies left in your account at the end of the plan year or at termination be forfeited. Therefore, your FSA accounts should be funded only for expenses that you know will occur. The maximum annual contribution for 2023 is $3,050. Participants receive a debit card pre-loaded with their annual election amount that may be used for reimbursements. Participants may also submit a completed reimbursement form and paid receipt for reimbursement if they prefer. Re-enrollment is required each year to continue participation in the program.

Employees with related service at an institution of higher education or non-profit (research) institution will be credited for that service toward the one- year eligibility requirement.
