Eligibility

Employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for benefits. During enrollment, you may also cover your eligible dependents, such as legal spouse and/or child(ren) up to age 26.

Effective Date

Benefits start on the first of the month after your hire date. If you are hired on the first of the month, your benefits will begin that same day.

OVERVIEW

Direct Auto remains committed to providing a competitive and cost-effective benefits program. For the 2025 plan year, we are excited to introduce changes and enhancements that we believe will be beneficial for you and your families. Below are the changes that will take effect on January 1, 2025:

  • BlueSaver90 Premiums: Increasing by 17.5%
  • Out-of-pocket maximums for BlueSaver90 increasing due to BCBSND plan adjustments: 
    • Employee Only: $8,000
    • Employee + Child(ren): $12,000
    • Employee + Spouse: $16,000
    • Family: $16,000
  • Dental Premiums: Increasing by 8.7%
  • Provider Change: Dental, life, disability, and voluntary benefit coverage will shift from MetLife to UNUM
  • HSA IRS Maximums: Increasing
  • 401(k) Auto-Enrollment for New Hires: Changing from 4% to 6% effective January 1, 2025

ENROLLMENT

Action Required:

The benefit choices you make during your initial enrollment or annual open enrollment will remain in effect for the entire year.

You can, however, modify your elections under certain circumstances, called "Qualifying Events". Qualifying events include:

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Birth or adoption of child
  • Loss of eligibility under another plan

If you experience a qualifying event, you may make changes to your benefits within 31 days of the event.

COMPANY PAID LIFE & DISABILITY

UNUM

Direct Auto offers company-paid Basic Life, Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage through UNUM.

Basic Life and AD&D

Employees working 30+ hours per week are eligible for life insurance coverage of 2.5 times their annual earnings (up to $500,000) payable to a designated beneficiary upon death. The AD&D benefit is payable to you in the event of a covered dismemberment or to your beneficiary if your death is the result of an accident.

Short-Term Disability

Everyday illnesses or injuries can disrupt your work and complicate household expenses. Short-Term Disability insurance helps by providing financial support, allowing you to focus on recovery. If you're eligible and approved, coverage starts after a 7-day absence, offering 60% of your income, up to $2,000 per week, for a maximum of 12 weeks.

Long-Term Disability

Serious illnesses or accidents can disrupt your life and prevent you from working for months or even years. Long-Term Disability provides financial protection for you by paying a portion of your income, so you have financial support to manage your disability and your household. If you qualify, benefits start after a 90-day waiting period and cover 60% of your earnings, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.

DEPENDENT CARE FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

The Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) lets you set aside pre-tax money for eligible dependent expenses, helping you save on taxes.

Contributions:

The amount you choose during enrollment is your contribution for the whole year. You can only change it if you have a qualifying life event.

You may contribute as follows:   

  • Up to $5,000 annually
  • Up to $2,500 if married and filing separately 

How the Plan Works: 

Eligible expenses must occur between January 1 and December 31. An expense is considered incurred when the service is performed, not when you pay for it. You have until March 31 to file your claims. Any unclaimed funds after that date will be forfeited.

HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT

The Health Savings Account (HSA) lets you set aside pre-tax money for eligible expenses for yourself and your dependents, reducing your taxable income and saving you money on taxes.

Eligibility for an HSA: 

  • Be covered by the Direct Auto High Deductible Health Plan.
  • Not be covered by your spouse’s FSA.
  • Not be enrolled in Medicare. 
  • Not be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return. 

2025 IRS Maximums (includes employee + employer contributions):

  • $4,300 for individual coverage 
  • $8,550 for employee + children, employee + spouse, or family coverage 
  • $1,000 catch-up contribution if you’re 55 or older 

2025 Quarterly Nodak Employer Contributions:

  • HSA Employer Contribution #1
    • The first pay period of each quarter (January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15)
    • These contributions are meant as a bonus amount
    • Nodak Insurance will contribute $250 per quarter as long as you have an HSA and are contributing to it
  • HSA Employer Contribution #2
    • The last pay period of each quarter (March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31)
    • These contributions are meant as "employer match" amounts, with maximum contributions based on the medical coverage level of the employee
      • Employee only - maximum of $250.00 per quarter
      • Employee and Children – maximum of $375.00 per quarter
      • Employee and Spouse, or Employee and Family – maximum of $500.00 per quarter

Direct Auto offers a competitive benefits package as part of your total compensation. We understand that your benefit choices depend on your personal needs, so we provide additional optional employee-paid benefits through UNUM for financial support.

Available Voluntary Benefits:

  • Voluntary Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
  • Accident Insurance
  • Critical Illness Insurance
  • Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Voluntary Life and AD&D Coverage:

A sudden accident or death can leave you or your loved ones in a vulnerable position. Employees have the opportunity to enroll in Term Life and AD&D insurance for yourself, your spouse, and your children, supplementing your employer-paid Basic Life coverage. An Evidence of Insurability form may be required for enrollment.

  • You: Choose coverage from $10,000 to $300,000 in $10,000 increments, up to 5 times your earnings.
  • Your Spouse: Coverage up to $100,000 in $5,000 increments, not exceeding your own coverage amount.
  • Your Children: Coverage up to $10,000 in $2,000 increments, with one policy covering all children until age 19 (or 26 if full-time students). For children aged 14 days to 6 months, coverage is $1,000.

401(k)

Principal

This employer-sponsored retirement savings plan works by taking a percentage of employees' salaries and placing it in investments.

Employee Contributions 

Effective 1/1/2025, employees are automatically enrolled in the 401(k) plan at 6% of their pay, unless you choose a different amount or decide not to defer. You can select either Pre-Tax or Roth deferrals. You may defer up to 80% of your pay or $23,500 in 2025. If you are age 50 or older by year-end, you can contribute up to $31,000. Contributions can be changed anytime online with the Principal.

Employer Match 

To be eligible for the company match, you must be employed for one year, be an active employee on the last day of the plan year, worked at least 1,000 hours during that year, and be 21 years of age or older. Direct Auto will match 50 cents of every dollar up to 6% of compensation.
