Your Retirement Plan
Plan Eligibility – New Hires will be eligible to participate in the Plan when they complete 30 days of service and have attained age 21. Your Entry Date will be the first day of the month coinciding with, or next following, the date you satisfy the eligibility requirements.
Auto-Enroll: Once eligible, you will be enrolled in the Plan with an automatic deferral of 3% of your base pay each payroll period unless you opt out of the Plan. You also have the option to change your deferral at any time.
Match: Barentz offers a 401(k) Match of 100% of contributions you make up to 4% of your compensation.
Standard & Other Deferrals: “Standard” deferrals will apply to your base/regular earnings only. “Other” deferral elections will apply to your bonus. To make changes to your elections, you can log in to your Empower participant portal, or call 800-338-4015.
Traditional & Roth Contribution: You can choose salary deferrals that are Traditional pre-tax contributions, Roth after-tax contributions, or a combination of both.
Investments: You have a variety of investment choices within your 401(k) Plan. You will be auto enrolled into a Target Date Fund that aligns with your retirement age (with an assumption of 65 years old). You can re-direct those investments to any investment option offered within the Plan. Your investment options are listed on your Empower participant portal.
Plan Custodian
You can access your account by visiting the Empower site, or by calling Empower participant services at 800-338-4015. You can access the Empower site for the following services:
- Enrollment and Contribution Changes: Get started in the plan, or make changes to the amount that comes out of your paycheck.
- Beneficiary Designation and Storage: Setting your beneficiaries is an important step to make sure you are in control of who gets your account in the unlikely and unfortunate event of your passing.
- Balance and Investments: You can check your account balance, as well as view and make changes to your investments.
- Statements and Notices: Your account statements and important plan documents are stored online.
- Withdrawals: If you need to take money from the plan, you can review your options and submit distribution requests.
To access the Empower site, go to empowermyretirement.com or click the link below! If it is your first time logging in, make sure to hit the green "Register" button to set up your online account.
How To Enroll
To begin your enrollment online - go to empowermyretirement.com or click on the link below.
To access your account for the first time click the register button, then select "I do not have a pin". Follow the prompts to enter in your information, and create a username and password. If you have another account at Empower, you will need to call to receive your pin.
Once online to complete your enrollment you will
- Set your contribution amount. This amount will be taken out of each paycheck and contributed to the account on your behalf. You can always change how much you are contributing to your account.
- Standard Contributions: these elections will apply the desired contribution amount to your regular/base earnings only.
- Other Contributions: these elections will apply the desired contribution amount to any bonus pay.
- Set your contribution type. You can elect to have your contributions treated as a Traditional or Roth contribution, or a combination of both.
- Pre-Tax Contributions will lower your taxable income for the year. When you withdraw your contributions, you will have to pay taxes on your contributions and their earnings.
- Roth Contributions come out of your paycheck after you pay taxes. As long as it has been 5 years since your first Roth contribution and you take the money out after you turn 59.5, you will get to withdraw all your Roth contributions plus their earnings, tax-free.
- Set your Investments. If you feel confident, you can pick and choose which funds you want to be invested in. Your plan also offers Target Date Funds, which will automatically invest in stocks and bonds for you, based on the year you are expecting to retire.
