We are pleased to offer a selection of benefits designed with your health and financial wellbeing in mind. We review our benefit programs each year to ensure we consider the best combination of benefit coverage, network access and affordability for Team Members. Michigan First Credit Union remains committed to providing a competitive, cost-effective benefit program.
Please review the remainder of this page and your Open Enrollment materials for more information regarding your plan options for 2023.
ELIGIBILITY
All regular part-time team-members working at least 24 hours per week are eligible to participate in the benefit plans offered. Newly hired Team Members will be eligible the 31st day of full-time employment. When you enroll in the benefits program, you may also cover your eligible dependents. Dependents include your legal spouse and children. Children eligibility is as follows -
- Medical | Dental | Vision: End of the calendar year the child turns age 26
- Voluntary Life: Age 19 or 25 if full time student
Should you separate from Michigan First Credit Union, benefits will be terminated at 11:59 pm as of the last day worked.
ENROLLMENT
NEW HIRES! Action Required: You must log into ADP and elect or waive benefits within 30 days of your date of hire.
ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
- Log into your ADP account
- Follow instructions and enroll in your benefits
- Make sure to save your elections and a copy of your confirmation statement
The only opportunity to modify your plan elections for 2023 is if you have a Qualifying Life Event. These are events such as marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, loss of eligibility under another plan. If you experience a Qualifying Life Event, you may make changes to your benefits by contacting Human Resources and completing any election changes in ADP within 30 days of the event (60 days if due to adding a new child from birth or adoption). You will need to provide supporting documentation to support the changes based on the Qualifying Life Event. Exception: HSA contributions can be changed at any time for any reason.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of MI (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN) will continue to be the administrator for you medical and prescription coverage. You have the option to select various plan options, including PPO, POS, HMO plans all of which have some network variations. Highlights of your 2023 medical plan options are below:
- Point of Service (POS) options - more flexibility than an HMO
- POS HSA 2000 plan that offers the ability to contribute pre-tax to a Health Savings Account (HSA)
- POS 1000 plan being offered as a cheaper alternative to the PPO 1000 plan
- POS and HMO plans include $10 virtual visits for standard plans and 100% covered virtual visits after satisfying your deductible on the HSA plan options

HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT (HSA)

The Health Savings Account (HSA) allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses. By contributing to a HSA you reduce your taxable income, so you pay less in taxes — which saves you money.
To be eligible to contribute towards an HSA tax-free, you must meet the requirements below:
- Covered by the POS HSA Qualified High Deductible Health Plan
- You cannot be covered by another health plan (including if your spouse has a Flexible Spending Account)
- You cannot be covered by Medicare or Medicaid
- You cannot be eligible to be claimed as a tax dependent
- You have not received VA benefits in the past 90 days
Important Reminder: The Eligibility rules for an HSA only apply for putting money in tax-free. If you are no longer eligible to put money in tax-free, you can still continue to use your HSA funds on qualified medical expenses tax free.
HSA contribution provided by Michigan First Credit Union (prorated on a monthly basis) to those employees working 24-29 hours per week:
Single: $200 ($16.66 per month)
Two Person: $400 ($33.33 per month)
Family: $600 ($50.00 per month)
HSA IRS Maximums for 2023 are as follows (any employer provided funds apply to the maximums below in addition to your own contributions):
- $3,850 for a single contract | $7,750 for a two person or family contract
- $1,000 "Catch Up" contribution for those age 55+
- If you are only covered by the POS HSA plan for part of the 2023 calendar year, your maximum allowable contribution is prorated based on the date you are covered by the POS HSA plan.

Michigan First Credit Union's dental plans provide comprehensive coverage to help you and your family maintain good dental health. Eligible Team Members may pick between two dental plans. The EPO plan is the lower cost dental plan, there is no out of network coverage for this plan and benefits are based on a fee schedule. The PPO plan provides richer dental benefits and provides both in and out of network coverage. Be aware if you go out-of-network, your costs will be higher.

VISION

Michigan First Credit Union offers vision coverage through BCBSM to help pay for eye exams, prescription glasses and contact lenses. BCBSM partners with VSP to utilize their network of vision providers, your VSP vision network is VSP Choice. You receive a higher level of benefits when you see a provider in network, however, out-of-network coverage is provided but may only be handled as reimbursements in some situations.

The Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses. By contributing to one or both of the Flexible Spending Accounts you reduce your taxable income, so you pay less in taxes — which saves you money.
Contributions
The election you make during enrollment is your election for the entire plan year. You may change it only if you have a qualifying life event and the change request must be consistent with the event.
You may contribute as follows:
Health Care FSA
- Up to $3,050 annually
- Reimbursements allowed for unreimbursed medical, prescription, dental, and vision expenses
- A carry over maximum of $610 of unused funds will roll over into the next plan year
Limited Purpose FSA
- Up to $500 annually
- Reimbursements allowed for unreimbursed dental and vision expenses only
- If you are enrolled in an HSA plan, you will be eligible for the Limited Purpose FSA only
Dependent Care FSA
- Up to $5,000 annually
- Limited to $2,500 if you are married and file separate tax returns

Michigan First Credit Union provides you with financial protection options for life, accidental death & dismemberment, short term disability and long term disability with Unum.
LIFE/AD&D
A sudden accident or death can leave you or your loved ones in a vulnerable position. Team Members have the opportunity to enroll in Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance which will supplement lost income in the event of an accident or death. If you choose to enroll in Team Member coverage, this will be in addition to your employer provided Basic Life coverage.
- Basic Life/AD&D Benefit - Employer Paid: Flat $5,000
- Voluntary Life/AD&D - Team Member Paid
- Team Member: Choose in $25,000 increments up to the lesser of 3x your annual salary or $300,000
- Spouse: Choose in $5,000 increments up to the lesser of 50% of the amount you elect for yourself or $50,000
- Child: Choose in $2,000 increments up to $10,000
Newly Hired Team Members (and your spouse/children) are eligible for Guarantee Issue coverage - No Medical Questions! These Guarantee Issue amounts also apply to a newly eligible spouse and/or children. If the Supplemental Life is not elected when first eligible, you will be required to submit Evidence of Insurability (EOI) should you choose to elect at a later date. Guarantee Issue amounts for new team members (and their families) and for newly eligible spouses and children are as follows: Team Member $100,000 | Spouse $30,000 | Child $10,000
Future Increase Option: During the annual open enrollment you may be eligible fo increase your supplemental life insurance with no medical questions! Team Members may increase their coverage by $25,000 up to the Guarantee Issue with no Evidence of Insurability!
Who's Your Beneficiary? Naming a beneficiary is a crucial part of electing life insurance. Also, don't forget to update your primary or secondary beneficiary if you experience a life event, such as a divorce or birth of a child. You can update your beneficiary by completing the Benefits-Beneficiary Forms found on The Hub.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION
401k
- Team members are eligible to contribute starting the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment.
- Michigan First matches up to 5% of your contributions!! FREE MONEY!!!
- Fully vested after 2 years of employment
- New Hires need to complete the 401k enrollment at www.401k.com
- If you do not complete the process at www.401k.com, you will be “auto enrolled” at a 3% deferral contribution rate and your funds will be deposited in the default investment account.
